On our search for a noninvasive facial treatment that firms and lifts sans needles, we came across a technique called “face yoga,” which, according to the Face Yoga Method website, aims to “naturally tighten, tone, and brighten your face.” And as if we weren’t already sold on this nonintrusive, anti-aging treatment, unlike Botox and expensive micro-current devices, it happens to be completely and totally free.
Just as it is important to exercise our bodies in order to keep them in tip-top shape, it is also important to exercise our faces. NYC skincare guru Ling Chan of Ling Skincare told Byrdie, “Our facial muscles store a lot of tension” which can “cause wrinkles and fine lines.” Through a series of face yoga poses, we are able to break up said tension, as the Face Yoga Method says facial exercise increases circulation throughout the face, ultimately resulting in “more radiant, youthful-looking skin.”

POSE 1: THE NECK-LIFT
1. Start by looking straight ahead in front of a mirror.
2. Tilt your neck back so you can slightly see the ceiling.
3. From just below your chin to the top of your collarbone, lightly stroke your neck in a downward motion.
4. Once you’ve reached your collarbone, let your fingertips rest there.
5. With your fingertips on your collarbone, lift your chin upward, and jut out your lower lip.
6. Repeat this step for a total of three times.
POSE 2: THE JAWLINE DEFINER
1. Start by looking straight ahead in front of a mirror.
2. Smile wide.
3. While holding your wide smile, press the tip of your tongue to the roof of your mouth.
4. In addition to step two, lift your chin in an upward diagonal motion, rotating to the right (you will feel a gentle stretch), then swallow. Do the same motion rotating to the left.
5. Repeat this exercise for a total of four times.
POSE 3: THE SMILE-LINE ERASER
1. Start by looking straight ahead in front of a mirror.
2. Curl your lips over your teeth.
3. While keeping your lips curled, make an “O” shape with your mouth.
4. With lips still curled and mouth open, smile wide.
5. Alternate between making the “O” shape with your mouth and the wide smile a total of eight times.
POSE 4: THE CHEEK FIRMER
1. Start by looking straight ahead in front of a mirror.
2. Take a deep breath and hold it.
3. While holding your breath, purse your lips.
4. Move your breath from one cheek to the other a total of eight times.
5. Release your breath, and take a moment to breathe.
6. When ready, repeat this exercise one more time.
