For someone whose wardrobe is pretty minimal (and who loves a no-makeup makeup routine), it might comes as a surprise that my favorite part of this job is reporting on buzzy “cores” and trends. Watching a new beauty trend hop from one red carpet to the next, or witnessing an aesthetic go viral after a co-sign from Bella Hadid is like being seated for a live show. Some find it annoying that trends will always come and go (at what feels like a rapidly increasing speed) but that’s the beauty of them! It gives us a chance to experiment with our personal style, or discover brands we wouldn’t normally reach for. All this to say: I’m ready for the 2025 trend cycle.

Ahead of the new year, we’ve scoured through the report and rounded up all the fashion and beauty trends you’ll want to get a head start on. It was only a matter of time before 2024’s breakout pop star, Chappell Roan, influenced the fashion trend cycle. The singer’s imaginative cosplay (hello, Statue of Liberty) and thoughtful references reach deep into the fashion and beauty archives, even all the way back to Medieval Times. You might remember the singer arriving to the VMAs looking like a glamorous knight, which likely kicked off “Medievalcore.” It’s currently up in searches by 110%, and it’s predicted that Gen-Z and Millennials will take inspiration from the era across home, beauty, and fashion. Antique-inspired jewelry and chainmail are already up in search value, and the trend is predicted to continue influencing the fashion and beauty cycle next year.
